MAPLEWOOD, NJ __ Parents urged South Orange-Maplewood Schools to drop its indoor mask mandate, saying Covid-19 mitigation efforts are harming students and science has shown that schools are not sources of community outbreaks.
Gina Preoteasa and her two daughters were among about a dozen parents and students that spoke Thursday night at the district's school board meeting, which was held virtually due to weather concerns.
Preoteasa said the district "has failed the community," and must "move past the draconian measures in place harming our children every single day." Her young daughters talked of awkwardness during indoor recess with plexi-glass dividers and difficulty wearing masks all day.
