President Joe Biden wants to sell yachts and luxury apartments owned by Russian oligarchs and send money to Ukraine
More than a dozen yachts worth an estimated $2.5 billion have been seized in several countries around the world
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said last week his country had suffered $550 billion in economic losses since Russia's February 24 invasion. The country demands at least $5 billion a month in international emergency aid.
In a speech Thursday at the White House, Biden also asked Congress for an additional $33 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which officials said could fund the war there over the next five months.
He said the money previously allocated to Ukraine had been spent.
"We basically have no money," he said in a note to the White House.
The money included $20.4 billion in additional security and military assistance, $8.5 billion in economic assistance and $3 billion in humanitarian aid.
