A jury recommended life imprisonment for Nikolas Cruz, who murdered 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The verdict disappointed the Florida governor and the public.
Survivors and family members of the 17 students and staff who died in the Parkland High School massacre addressing gunman Nikolas Cruz in court Tuesday, before Cruz was formally sentenced to life in prison.
Last month, a Florida jury disputed a prosecutor's motion for the death penalty and reaching a life sentence for the 2018 mass shooting of Cruz at the age of 19 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in South Florida.
Many of the victims' parents were outraged by the verdict, arguing that Cruz's death sentence could send bad signal to future school shooters.
