Pakistani police withdrew from around the house of former PM Imran Khan as a Pakistan court order a postponement of his arrest
Pakistani police withdrew from around the house of former PM Imran Khan as a Pakistan court on Wednesday order a postponement of his arrest until Thursday. The court’s decision came as an effort to lessen political instability in the country and end clashes with his supporters.
Pakistani #police clashed with supporters of former Prime Minister Imran #Khan near his home in #Lahore on March 14. Several people were wounded on both sides in clashes that lasted for 10 hours.
An arrest warrant was issued for Khan alleging corrupt acts while he was in power. His aid maintained that the former PM had secured a “protective bail” from the court.
Khan has demanded a snap election since he was ousted from power with a parliamentary vote last year. Shehbaz #Sharif, his successor, has rejected his demands adding that the vote would be held as initially scheduled later this year.
Khan has said that the charges against him, which include #terrorism charges, are a plot by his successor to discredit him. He also encouraged his supporters to continue protesting even in the event of his arrest.
